Bridge Safety Inspection
GM2 Associates, Inc. has recently entered into the Bridge Inspection
arena through the Federal and State DBE program. The project manager is
Manish Gupta, PhD, P.E. a principal owner of the firm who manages overall
quality control, scheduling, and manpower needs. GM2 has two full-time
bridge safety crews, with one NBIS-trained Team Leader. The Team Leader's
(Eugene Brustolon's) experience exceeds 5000 bridge inspections over
30 years with the Connecticut DOT. Our team members are trained and certified
in the operation of any under-bridge inspection equipment, including –
but not limited to – varying size snoopers, moogs, van lifts, rafts, and
highrails. Over the past year, the team has inspected in excess of 50 bridges,
including local bridges over water exceeding 20 feet, Interstate bridges,
and bridges over rail. From 2007 through 2009, the team is expected to
complete in excess of 300 bridge and sign support inspections.
Recent Examples of Work Include:
Local Bridges
In the last year alone, GM2 inspected and reported 22 bridges in the Connecticut
towns of Mansfield, Clinton, and Windham. All bridges were inspected
in accordance with the policies set by the Bridge Safety and Evaluation
Unit of the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Prior to that,
our teams inspected bridges in the towns of Colebrook, Torrington, and
North Branford. Bridges varied in sizes and types. Several bridges
required special inspection under-bridge access equipment such as snoopers,
rafts, and van lifts. Our teams operated all of this equipment.
Highway Bridges
Over the last year, GM2 inspected seven bridges carrying / crossing local
and Interstate highways. All bridges were inspected in accordance with
the policies set by the Bridge Safety and Evaluation Unit of Connecticut
Department of Transportation. Simple and extensive highway lane closures
were performed by our teams to gain access to the structures for inspection.
Several bridges required working with heavy under-bridge inspection equipment,
all of which was operated by GM2 inspectors.
Rail Bridges
GM2 Associates, Inc. is trained and certified to perform inspection
of bridges over railroads. All team members completed safety training
courses by Amtrak and Metro-North Railroads. Our recent experience includes
the inspection of six bridges in the towns of Old Lyme, Old Saybrook,
Westbrook, and Clinton. All of our inspections were performed during
the night with train traffic continuously running on adjacent tracks.
